I Miss…

September 18th, 2007 Faris

I’m currently listening to Samsons - Romansa Cinta & Keris Patih - Lagu Rindu. It’s been a while I didn’t listen to Indon songs since I came here. Suddenly I feel melancholic, keep repeating those two songs on my media player. It reminds me of my hometown, my family and friends. Life in here is totally different, as I expected. I have less friends. Wait, I don’t even have a friend yet. Friends in the office are just officemate. They aren’t counted.

Wedding Photo

So basically, on weekdays I go to work. Get into the office before 9 am. Go home by 5 pm. That’s my routine 5 days a week. During weekends, as I mentioned on previous post, it is meant to be a sleeping day LOL. Well, I would love to go out and take pictures around the city but sometimes I’m just too lazy. Too lazy to get up from my comfort bed. Urm, plus it’s a fasting month. Those are the reasons from “Si Pemalas” like me.

Renjis Renjis

I miss roti canai & teh tarik kedai mamak. I miss kenduri kawen, ‘coz I used to go to kenduri kawen twice a week every weekend. Why? Ambil gambar orang kawen lah apa lagi. Basically, those were my activities over the weekend. What I normally do was, I would take one weekend off just to get some rest and a wee space to hang out with friends. At least, I did not spend every weekend lepak at kenduri kawen shooting. But the more job you get, the more money coming in LOL.

Nevertheless, you still have to ensure every single album you are making is well organised. Luckily, I didn’t involve much on preparing the album for the clients. I was only an associate photographer so, regularly after shooting, I went home, did some editing then I’ll burn the photos into a CD and handed it over to the respective people who will manage the rest of it. Then I get paid. Hulala!

Wedding Photo

Hopefully when I get home someday, I still have an opportunity to do wedding again. Although it’s tiring, at least you get to do something you love. My hobby is taking pictures, not taking wedding pictures but as long as it’s related, so why not give it a go. I get paid anyway, haha.

Traditional Dance

In fact, I get to know many KL roads because of the wedding job. Finding clients house is one big problem if their house located somewhere I’m not familiar with. Maklumlah, aku Mat K (mat kelate), bukan Mat KL. Manalah tau sangat jalan kat KL tu. Anyway, it’s fun though. If you lost, read the signboard. If there’s no signboard, pandai-pandai lah kau.

Extremely Blank

Yes, you read the title. Tonight my brain doesn’t give me even a chance to post anything from my head. It’s like it has been blocked. So, I thought I wanted to share this video from youtube. It is one of my favourite video. Was originally sang by James Morisson. Probably most of us have heard and seen this video.

She performed on television in one of the tv show in the States previously, Marie Digby known as a internet celebrity. I kind of like her. She has got an amazing voice I reckon.

You need to a flashplayer enabled browser to view this YouTube video

P.S : Thanks a lot Imam for your wisdom upon finding youtube plugin for wordpress. You’re the man!

Aidilfitri Flavour

September 16th, 2007 Faris

Today I am totally out of ideas. It’s funny actually when you’ve got nothing to blog. I was at home for the entire day doing nothing but sleep. Ahh, weekends are meant to be sleeping day LOL. And now I am squeezing my brain so hard to bring out anything from my head just for the sake of my blog. I try so hard to write everyday and not to miss even one day. The thing is now, my brain is not functioning. I can’t think of anything to blog.

Well, let me try this one. I dig up my brother’s hard drive and apparently I found some photos which I sent him not so long ago when I was in Malaysia. It’s Raya photos! It reminds me of my kampung in Labok, Machang, Kelantan. The place where I was born. I don’t remember which year these photos belong to but I reckon it isn’t that long. Last 2 years if I’m not mistaken.

Mc Na & Mc Leen

I’m gonna make sure this year, I will have loads of raya photos to be posted on my blog LOL. Don’t know how is it going to look like. We normally hear and see community in Malaysia do Aidilfitri prayers only once at a time. You won’t hear that in the UK ‘coz it is completely different over here. In here, they have to do like 7 to 8 times because there are too many people coming to the mosque to do the prayers. Logically, yes it is going to be overflow considering there’s only a few mosques available and you wanna keep the whole Muslim in the UK in one mosque??? That is totally ridiculous and impossible.

Faris Aidilfitri

I don’t think there will be “kuih raya” available here. There’s no possibility at all. I mean, you can’t just go to the market and buy it. I am just going to imagine those “kuih raya” served on the table massively back in my hometown. And during open house, again there will be thousand of foods ready on the table! How can I resist all these when it remains alive in my head all the time. Sigh.

Kampung Labok

However, I am grateful to be given an opportunity to at least feel the taste of Aidilfitri in here. And it makes me appreciate of what I had before. I know when I go back someday, I’m gonna all these memories…

Pop Art

September 15th, 2007 Faris

I slept at 4.40 am last night after had my sahur. Got up at 11.25 this morning. Went to the kitchen and see if there’s anything to eat. Oopss, I forgot it’s Ramadhan. Suddenly, truttt truttt… my mobile rang. It was my brother. Said that there’s a Thames Festival in London near the Westminster Bridge & Tower Bridge. I was like, ooo okay, another biggest end-of-summer party not to be missed. But due to my mind was completely controlled by the city of laziness, I tended to just ignore it and went back to sleep!

Faris Pop Art

I woke up again at 2.13 pm in the afternoon. No, no more sleep. I had enough. Wanted to go to the festival but thought it was quite late already until I checked on the website, it says from noon to 10 pm. Duh, if only I knew. So I ended up with doing nothing but stayed at home, read magazine and… fell asleep for the 3rd time, oopss.

Asif Pop Art

After had my buka puasa tonight, I felt like trying out some tutorials on the photography magazine. Those images have been converted to Pop Art or also known as Digital Portrait which I had successfully done 3 so far. The only successful pop art I did was the one with blue hair and red shirt colour on top (that’s me) I guess. The tutorial looks easy but it’s not that easy actually. You can’t just follow the steps 100% according to the tutorial. You must use your logical common sense in order to make an image looks great. Some of photos may vary in regard to which angle the lights come from, the exposure and so on. So, for beginner like me, I think it’s quite close to a successful experiment considering this is my first time doing art images! No? Not even close? Okay, I must admit then.

Arisha Pop Art

But if anyone of you out there would love to share with me any digital portrait you created yourself, you can just drop me an email to farisfakri@gmail.com together with the attachment. I will then post it in here so that we can share some useful tips from expertise perhaps.

Photos & Photoshop

September 14th, 2007 Faris

All of a sudden, my mind was distracted with some old photos from couple of years ago back in Malaysia. Luckily, I bring along with me a bag of cd’s containing pictures from various of places which I took using my digicam. This was the time I began to jump into photography world, before became fanatic about it. I realize that sometimes there are too many memories to be remembered when you are away from home and the most effective way I reckon to treat this wound is by looking through your old photos. At least they can make you smile, laugh or even cry.

Tok Bali

I am a type of person who don’t really do major editing on my photos. Well, to be honest, I would love to learn how to use other tools on the Photoshop rather than just playing with basic editing. But my mind has been poisoned by photojournalism style which don’t require as much editing as we concern.

Jeram Linang

I can see nowadays people are so tempted to use Photoshop as a tool to make their photos look fantastic, amazing and superb and bla bla bla. I have no issue about it because I, myself use Photostop as well to do basic editing or colour correction or whatsoever you can deal with it. My worry is, as time goes by, I’m afraid there will be less people can really capture great photograph straight from the camera.

Faris & Joey

I personally, want to be a great photographer. I wanna have my own style of taking pictures. Let people recognize me by just looking at my photos. I know it’s tough and need a lot of hard work. It reminds me of back to basic lesson. Practice makes perfect. As in you’re about to learn how to ride a bike. At first stage, you’ll find it hard to balance your body but once you’re used to it, that just come accross automatically without even need to think about it anymore. In other words, don’t stop taking pictures. Grab your bloody weapon, go out and start shooting.

Eidilfitri 2006
