Mak Yong (Photos)

June 28th, 2009 by Faris

Bonjour!

As I mentioned in the video about Mak Yong the other day - these are the photos I would like to share with you people. I have to say it was the best experience I have ever had to watch this kind of performance. It was fantastic and very different. If I have not had an opportunity to go and watch again next time, at least I know what the real Mak Yong is all about now. It is a combination of drama and dance and it is very spiritual.

The performance took place in a village called Gunong. Honestly, I won’t dare myself to drive in that area because it is bloody dark at night with no lights at all. Not even a single light. The reason they played Mak Yong in a very rural area was because it was banned in 1991 and could no longer be shown in public since then. Moreover, the performance was not fake. It was real. When I say real, it means in the beginning of the show they called the spirits from 4 angles to “ask their permission” to do the performance. By end of the show, one of them will be possessed.

It was my first time watching Mak Yong live so I did not know the routine of the show at first. However, I began to understand the sequence of the story till the end and I enjoyed it. I am still busy with wedding album which I have to complete and submit for printing but I will try my best to get the video up as soon as possible.

Thank you for dropping by and hope you enjoy your stay.

This is something I really miss when I was away. The food is absolutely yummy! Tambah nasik 4 pinggan pun tak terasa. I love masakan kampung. I love makan tapi I tanak jadi gemuk. I nak jadi tough je. Boleh tak?

My Apology

June 12th, 2009 by Faris

Hello everybody.

Dear oh dear. I am so glad I am writing this. What is happening to me right now is beyond my control. I wish I could do better with my blog but unfortunately I screwed up a little bit due to certain circumstances.

I have been extremely busy for the past few weeks since I came home. It all started from my last week in the UK until now. I wanted to update my blog so much but I just could not. I have shipped my PC along with other stuff and will only get it in the next 2 months if not mistaken. Luckily I bought this laptop to accompany me whenever I am lonely LOL. Certainly it is not as powerful as PC but at least I can still do a little bit of photo editing.

My camera is also resting peacefully as I have not taken pictures for quite a while. Only a few weeks back I went out to Pasar Besar Khadijah in Kota Bharu, Kelantan to accompany my friend to buy “Sambal Daging” and felt like taking a shot or two. Otherwise, it stays quietly in the bag.

I have to start blogging actively again. This is so not healthy. Probably I should make use of my “Jet Lag” problem to clear up my back log photos.

By the way, a few updates for those who are interested in wedding photography. I will be covering my best friend’s wedding this coming Thursday which is tomorrow. Honestly, I feel a little nervous because it has been a while since my last assignment in Cardiff a year ago but everything is under control so far. Then, I will be in Pasir Mas, Kelantan on the 6th of June to cover another wedding. 2 weddings so far in June. There are a few more coming up soon in August but still awaiting confirmation.

So, that’s all for now. Again, I would like to apologize for my long absence and will try my best to update as frequent as possible. Until then, have a nice day people.

P.S : I didn’t realize I actually saved this entry to draft and it supposed to be posted on 2th June! LOL. What is happening to me!

Busy Week

May 20th, 2009 by Faris

Apologize for not updating my blog for so long. It has been a very busy week for me. I have been packing up my stuff for the last few days and only today I manage to sit back and relax. Will try my best to keep my blog updated as frequent as possible. It has been emotional to leave England after 2 years stay. Especially to leave your loved ones.

Vltava River, Prague

May 8th, 2009 by Faris

It’s been a while since my last video. Too many photos & videos in que waiting to be released. In conjunction with previous entry, I’m glad I finally managed to share one of the videos we filmed in Prague. Just a short video of us having fun riding a boat where we were given 60 minutes to tour around Vltava river. It was absolutely beautiful. So relaxing and breath taking. That evening was gorgeous. We had so much fun!

Thank you for watching. Hope you enjoy your stay.

Prague, Czech Republic (Chapter 1)

May 3rd, 2009 by Faris

This post supposed to be up couple of weeks ago but due to certain circumstances, I did not have a chance to even have a look at those photos for a selection. Believe it or not, I took over 1000+ images on this 4 days trip. So, you can imagine how stressed and “weng” I was to select and put up all good photos together. Nevertheless, it was worth it. This was the best trip I’ve ever had! As we all know Prague is a very famous place for a honeymoon. When I first heard people said that, I was wondering how romantic could it be? I have seen a bunch of buildings photos on Flickr with massive design and architecture and I thought, it could be another western country with historical buildings. Until I went there and saw it with my own eyes, man it was unbelieveable! You don’t wanna come back. Trust me, it happened to me.

Therefore, I would like to share some photos while I was there with Indah and a fabulous couple Farouk and Farina. Maisarah and I arrived one day earlier because we booked the tickets separately and somehow we got a good deal but had to fly one day before. By the way, just to let you guys know that I have to split the photos up to 3 parts apparently. They are so many in my hard drive at the moment and if I’m pushing myself by selecting every single photo from day 1 to 4, and put them all in one post, I’ll go crazy. So, I thought it would great to ensure everything is in place by sorting it out one by one. Besides, you would probably get bored to see too many photos unless you’re a photo freak! Heee.

I also did an outdoor portraiture for Farouk and Farina which I call it destination portraiture where you can see the teaser from the previous post. Their photos will be up soon right after I finish all parts for this post. We were very lucky because the weather was absolutely fantastic when we were there. Speaking about the weather, it was very dry and my skin started to peel especially in the face. So for those of you who are planning to go, you better get a moisturiser.

In terms of food wise, there’s very little halal food in there. Well, if you’re thinking of having chicken or meat for your meal, forget it. However, while we were walking in town one evening, surprisingly we found the only kebab shop and it’s halal! But unfortunately, the food wasn’t really nice but we ate it because we were so hungry and didn’t want to waste it. You can always go for vegetarian or seafood meal but be alert! Seafood meals are very expensive unless you don’t mind spending some money.

That’s it for now. For chapter one. I hope you enjoy viewing the photos and thank you for reading. There are more photos coming up soon in the next 2 or 3 chapters. Just stay tuned and don’t get bored easily please heee. Have a great week everybody.
